Overheard in yoga class today:

"If you perform mathematics in this position, relativity will make sense."

And then:

"And in this position, quantum mechanics will make sense."

And then, several pretzel-twists later:

"And if you do the math in this position, introductory string theory will make sense."

And lastly:

"But if you do the mathematics in this position, the works of H.P. Lovecraft will make sense."

I don't remember what happened after that. It's probably for the best, though, really.

I think that's the position where you bend over and shove your head up your ass. If you're really good at it, marketing will make sense too.

I do, which is weird because it didn't happen to me. Thank goodness I came upon this post, I was terribly confused.

Is it the kind of yoga where the angles of your body are all wrong?

"Assume the City of R'lyeh asana."

Mmm... I was just thinking to myself that I'd never had that experience with math, though I've had it with poetry and some foggy half-formed memories from very early childhood, and wondering if maybe the type of yoga or perhaps the teacher's emphasis on form or meditation, holding or breathing, pushing or listening had something to do with it, when I got to the part about H.P. Lovecraft and felt much better because I was back with the group.

yah, no, reality is far more pleasant when hp lovecraft is relegated to macabre fantasy rather than epistemology.
