A co-worker of mine was a movie director in the 70's, right after he'd graduated from film school, and made a few action films. He wasn't very good at it - I've seen some of his stuff during an office party - but he had made an important innovation.
Back in '74, he gave the following instructions to Bob Guyler (the drug dealer villain, now a forklift operator): "Hey, I've got an idea. Why don't you have Hunter Cross hold the gun sideways while he shoots? Looks hip and casual while you do it."
He'll probably never own a house, or be famous, but, in my eyes, he is a pioneer.
