Midnight at the Temple of the Sun

Once in a while, I like to go feed the ducks with my arch-nemesis. We bring sandwiches and Capri Suns, and bread crumbs for the ducks. We chat about what's new, eye each other warily, watch the pond and the birds, and plot each other's ruin.

My arch-nemesis said, "You know, I think if that duck over there awakened into universal rationality, and became a perfectly enlightened philosopher-king and poet-warrior - the noblest and wisest of all ducks - he'd have the same political beliefs and aesthetic tastes that I myself hold."

Naturally, our beliefs and tastes are entirely opposite.

"You're probably right." I said, "But that duck there? If the same thing happened to her, she'd agree with me."

"What, the white one with its head in the water?"

"No, the mallard."

"Oh."

We thought about it in silence for a while. Then we noticed that our ducks were both wooden decoys.

Does that change anything?
