Saving a dying species

I was in the market to buy a baby elephant. Totally above-board and legal, I assure you. I'm not, like, selling it for ivory or something. I need it for a (well-treated) circus of adorable baby animals, to show aliens about adorableness so they (hopefully) won't wipe us out.

Anyway, the zoo supplier had two identical-looking baby elephants. One cost a little more.

"Why?" I asked.

"Well, this one is geekier."

"How so? They both look like elephants to me."

"Well, this one looks less like an elephant and more like a Loxodonta africana. And she doesn't get bored when we talk about Battlestar Galactica, except when she gets annoyed by spoilers. And she gets obsessive about rudimentary tool use, especially if the tool was a steampunk item mentioned on Boing Boing."
